ABSTRACT PAINTINGS + PRINTS
I am fascinated by organic growth systems and cycles of formation and destruction. My abstracts are influenced by natural shapes, patterns, and macrocosms/microcosms. I’m constantly thinking about the perpetual forces that sustain creation in our universe, and I’m interested in the translation of energies and ideas into physical form. I have a lot of questions: What nuanced factors determine the appearance and general character of a thing, as it develops? What is the balance between nature and nurture, and when it comes to the relationship between a creator and its creation, who responds to whom? What I enjoy most about making art is getting to encounter the incredible, energetic process of “becoming” as each piece materializes in ways I don’t expect.
For me, the magic of an artwork lies in the accumulation of moments that occurred in the making, while it grew. The mark of every fleeting motion, through a struggle to understand and discover, is held within the end result. I have a compulsive desire to witness this creative phenomenon again and again, as it connects me to the mysterious undercurrents moving through myself and our world. |
